App Review: Habitica

Here's a little bit about what I have to say about this habit app. This is an app that I found specifically to see if it would be useful to use with clients, and I've found a winner!

  • Most gamified habit app I've seen so far. Customizable avatar with skin colour and wheel chair option.

  • Ability to buy accessories based on the type of role you want to play in the habit world. The more tasks you complete over the weeks, the more coins you win to purchase accessories.

  • Useful guide 'Justin' to help get you oriented to the app.

  • Tracking of good habits to create and bad habits to reduce. Positive and negative reinforcement of habits by gaining points when you do a good habit and loosing points when you submit to a habit you're trying to quit.

  • I have yet to see an app that doesn't only focus on the positive. This is more realistic and adds a level of accountability.

  • Once you've signed up you receive a short newsletter with 3 tips based in behavioural activation of CBT to help you start making changes.
